Trump Tariff Notice
The Toucan Cove imports products directly from both Japan, and on occasion, China.
On April 2, 2025, President Donald Trump implemented broad and significant tariffs (import taxes) across nearly every region and major trading partner. The full list of tariffs can be found here. On Saturday, April 5, 2025, the baseline tariff rate of 10% went into effect.
The additional "reciprocal" tariffs are slated to begin on Wednesday, April 9, 2025. The new tariff rate for goods imported from Japan will be 24%. The new tariff rate for China was 54%, and the previous "de minimis" option for importing small goods under a certain threshold is no longer an option. However, the China tariff rate was subsequently raised significantly.
On April 9, 2025, Trump paused additional reciprocal tariffs on Japan but raised tariffs on China to an effective 145%. Japan's current tariff rate is now 10% and this is what is reflected across item prices. Items from China will no longer be stocked while tariff rates remain high.
What this means for you
This means that products that have not yet been imported, which includes all pre-order items and anything currently on the water outside a US port, will be subject to this import tax, paid for initially by The Toucan Cove, but then ultimately by the customer. To be clear, tariffs are not paid by the country of origin, but by the customer purchasing the item from the country.
Effective April 3, 2025, all new orders for goods not yet imported will include a mandatory tariff surcharge. This surcharge is built into the item price and will not show differently on the order invoice. We do not want to do this, but unfortunately, we have no choice.
If you have any questions about your order or the tariffs and how they impact pre-orders, please do not hesitate to reach out to The Toucan Cove via our contact page or by emailing us at toucan@thetoucancove.com.
